"This trip ain't my first rodeo, a vagabond since I was a kid.  Still listen to Old Time Radio, just like we always did." - Wheel of Fortune (Patience Pays 2008)
Ever since I was a girl, traveling with my father in the backwoods of some National Park or some lonely coastal road in Mexico, I have loved listening the old time radio shows.  With so many miles under my travelin belt, they help me pass the time, following the mysteries, the dramas and the suspenseful thrillers with my imagination.  I still love it today as I travel in my schoolbus Patience.   Randy's Old Time Radio has an extensive collection of high quality Mp3's available to get your collection started or order Old Time Radio for someone you love.

Box 13

To seek out new ideas for his fiction, Holliday ran a classified ad in the Star-Times newspaper where he formerly worked: "Adventure wanted, will go anywhere, do anything -- write Box 13, Star-Times." The stories followed Holliday's adventures when he responded to the letters sent to him by such people as a psycho killer and various victims. Box 13 premiered in 1947. Sam Spade

Sam Spade

Sam Spade combined several features of previous detectives, most notably his cold detachment, keen eye for detail, and unflinching determination to achieve his own justice. He is the man who has seen the wretched, the corrupt, the tawdry side of life but still retains his "tarnished idealism". The Adventures of Sam Spade was a radio series based loosely on the private detective character Sam Spade, created by writer Dashiell Hammett for The Maltese Falcon. The show ran for 13 episodes on ABC in 1946, for 157 episodes on CBS in 1946-1949, and finally for 51 episodes on NBC in 1949-1951

Candy Matson

Candy Matson

Candy Matson was the private eye star of Candy Matson, YUkon 2-8209, an NBC West Coast show which first aired in March 1949 and was created by Monty Masters. He cast his wife, Natalie Parks, in the title role of this sassy, sexy PI. Her understated love interest, Lt. Ray Mallard, was played by Henry Leff while her assistant and best pal, aptly named Rembrandt Watson, was the voice of Jack Thomas. Every show opened with a ringing telephone and our lady PI answering it with "Candy Matson, YU 2-8209" and then the organ swung into the theme song, "Candy". Each job took Candy from her apartment on Telegraph Hill into some actual location in San Francisco. The writers, overseen by Monty, worked plenty of real Bay Area locations into every plot.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater

CBS Radio Mystery Theater

CBS Radio Mystery Theater (aka Radio Mystery Theater and Mystery Theater, sometimes abbreviated as CBSRMT) was a radio drama series created by Himan Brown that was broadcast on CBS affiliates from 1974 to 1982. The format was similar to that of classic old time radio shows such as The Mysterious Traveler and The Whistler, in that the episodes were introduced by a host (E. G. Marshall) who provided pithy wisdom and commentary throughout. Unlike the hosts of earlier programs, Marshall is fully mortal, merely someone whose heightened insight and erudition plunge the listener into the world of the macabre.

The Black Museum w Orson Wells

The Black Museum

The Black Museum was a 1951 radio crime drama program independently produced by Harry Alan Towers and based on real-life cases from the files of Scotland Yard's Black Museum. Ira Marion was the scriptwriter, and music for the series was composed and conducted by Sidney Torch. Although often mistakenly cited as being produced for the BBC, the series was produced and syndicated commercially by Towers throughout the English speaking world. Orson Welles was both host and narrator for stories of horror and mystery based on Scotland Yard's collection of murder weapons and various ordinary objects once associated with historical true crime cases.

Vincent Price as The Saint

The Saint with Vincent Price

Simon Templar, AKA "The Saint" was not a Saint…in fact, the name was the underworld's sobriquet for this radio detective, who often did a little bad to get the "goods" on his criminal of choice. "The Saint" is a bon vivant who savors detection as an art form.
